Legacy Gifts
Wills
There are many ways to remember SBFC in your will:
You can leave a percentage of your estate, or of the residual estate after specific bequests are paid.
You can leave a set dollar amount.
You can leave a particular asset (e.g., government savings bonds, publicly traded securities, business interests, real estate, or a collectible).
You can also name SBFC the contingent beneficiary so that SBFC is “second in line” in case your named beneficiary predeceases you or disclaims the property.
Remembering SBFC in your will is as simple as asking your estate planner to include the following suggested verbiage:
After fulfilling all other provisions, I hereby give, devise and bequeath to Selway-Bitterroot Foundation (Federal Tax ID: 27-2868220) a 501(c)(3),____% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate[or $____if specific amount]
Life Insurance
You can donate a life insurance policy you no longer need. If you don’t want to make an irrevocable gift of a policy you own, you can simply name SBFC as a beneficiary of your policy.
Individual Retirement Plans
Since 2006, the federal government has often made it possible for donors overage 70½ to make direct charitable distributions from IRAs and simultaneously satisfy the required minimum distribution (RMD).
Charitable Gift Annuity
A gift annuity is a simple arrangement that provides you (or other named annuitants) with the security of income you can never outlive. It pays a set dollar amount each year to one or two designated individuals in exchange for a gift of cash or marketable securities (minimum $10,000). Gift annuity rates are fixed and depend on the age of the income beneficiary(ies) at the time the annuity is established.
You get an income tax deduction at the time you make your gift for aportion of the amount you donate. You will also enjoy favorable taxation of your gift annuity payments, especially if you donate appreciated stock or mutual funds shares. SBFC would be happy to provide you with a personalized gift annuity proposal for your consideration.
