A presentation by Archaeologist Lucy Harris.  The western margin of Cascade Reservoir in Valley County, Idaho contains an impressive archaeological record that documents a human history of the valley that spans 11,000 years.  Given how little is known or understood about the early human history of the area, these sites collectively represent an invaluable and irreplaceable archaeological record. However, ongoing erosion from reservoir wave action and casual collection of surface exposed artifacts by recreationists are having serious detrimental effects on site integrity. This talk pulls together a sketch of the deep human history of the valley as gleaned from surface examination of these sites and discusses ongoing efforts by the Boise National Forest to evaluate the extent of site destruction from erosion and to develop appropriate mitigation measures.
