A season of working as a Wilderness Ranger with the SBFC through the eyes of Jacob Mandell and Jack Markoski.

About jacob mandell

2013 Wilderness Ranger Intern on the Salmon-Challis National Forest

Jacob, a Western Washington University graduate, spent the summer after his junior year with SBFC as a Wilderness Ranger Fellow.  Jacob’s forest assignment was in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. He was based out of McCall, ID. A year later Jacob earned his degree in Outdoor Recreation with a minor in Education and Social Justice.

After several outdoor jobs, one with the National Parks, another with the Washington Trails Association, Jacob has pivoted to working in a field where he’s using his school background with his minor in Education.

Jacob is forever grateful for having the Wilderness Ranger experience and, for him, the fond memories live on.
