WHAT ABOUT LEAVE NO TRACE?
SBFC operates in many spectacular and remote landscapes! Our work projects take to us sites encountering varying levels of impact from recreational use. Whether in a front country or a backcountry environment, SBFC strives to be responsible stewards of our natural world by minimizing adverse individual and collective impacts of our trail crews. In addition to following the rules and restrictions for visitors to Wilderness areas, we also embrace a culture of Leave No Trace. Several SBFC staff members are Leave No Trace Master Educators or Trainers.
The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace:
Plan Ahead
Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Dispose of Waste Properly
Leave What You Find
Minimize Campfire Impacts
Respect Wildlife
Be Considerate of Other Visitors

In 2019, SBFC staff also partnered with the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers during a Hot Spot activation week to address impact concerns on that forest. One outcome of that week was the commitment to host annual service projects at the three hot springs along the Lolo Pass Corridor.
