DESCRIPTION:

Join us for an 8-day trail clearing and maintenance project in the beautiful Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness on the 7.8-mile Roaring Lion Trail. This will be our seventh project at SBFC, where we’ve been working to restore the trail since the destructive 2016 fire. In 2025, we’re excited to return for a full week of deep Wilderness work, ensuring this stunning stretch of Bitterroot Canyon remains accessible for all to enjoy.

The project will involve a mix of front and backcountry camping. We’ll spend the first four days camping and working from the trailhead. For the second half, we’ll backpack into a base camp approximately 3-4 miles in, where we’ll continue our work for the remainder of the trip.

Volunteers can choose to join us for the first half (car camping), the backpacking portion, or the entire 8-day trip. Just let us know your preference when you register!

Our tasks will include clearing fallen trees, brushing, cleaning drains, and redefining the trail tread. Please note that crossing Roaring Lion Creek is required, and there may be lingering high water in June.

SBFC will provide all meals, including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks.
